WHAT IS SOFTENED LINEN?
The linen fiber fabric is washed in a large industrial washing machine during the production process along with stones (usually pumice or some other volcanic rock is used). The stones break down the fabric fibers, loosening the weave and making them softer and more flexible. After the softening process, the fabric:
- Becomes softer
- Reduces shrinkage
- Achieves a soft look
- Shows soft, roandded folds without sharp corners
- The drape increases by 20-30%
Softened linen is especially suitable for sewing dresses, bed linen, and baby clothes.

WASHING
Linen fabric is very durable, so it can be safely boiled, but the washing temperature also depends on the finishing material of the product. Colored linen fabrics are recommended to be washed at a temperature of 30°C, but in general, it can be considered that linen products can be washed in a washing machine at temperatures of 60°-90°C.IRONING AND DRYING
It is not recommended to dry colored linen, especially dark-saturated shades, in direct sunlight – as the color may fade.White fabrics will become even whiter in the sunlight, without unnecessary chemicals.
It is recommended to iron linen products while they are still damp.
It is not recommended to dry in the tumble dryer until completely dry, as the resulting creases will no longer be possible to iron out. The recommended temperature for ironing is 160-200°C. (most often for the iron, setting 2 ●●)
In our family, for several years now, we stretch the wet bedding from the washing machine over a railing and let it dry for a couple of hours. This way, the small wrinkles will smooth out under the weight.
BEFORE SEWING
Although softened linen fabrics are pre-washed, it should be noted that linen fabrics tend to wrinkle quite a bit and may shrink when washed, so it is highly recommended to wash them or at least properly treat them with a steam iron before cutting and sewing.
