How to sew a fitted sheet step by step

We are the parents of three wonderful children, and the skill of sewing bed sheets is very practical and useful in our home!
New bedding is a great way to refresh your interior and customize it to your taste.
The fitted sheet will be excellent, as it will stay in place while moving in sleep.
Ralfiņš is a tank fan, which is why on a rainy day, themed bedding with a camouflage pattern was created - the fabric, of course, from Charlotte's fabrics -see all fabrics here.
A big thank you to the lady and her sewing skills!

SHEET WITH RUBBER STEP BY STEP

YOU WILL NEED:
  • Cotton fabric approximately 1-2 m of fabric (depending on the mattress size)
  • Matched thread (polyester or cotton)
  • Rubber 4 mm-10 mm wide (depending on mattress sizes)
  • Sewing accessories (sewing machine, overlock (if available), scissors, pins, measuring tape, chalk)
Tip: Before sewing, wash and iron the fabric to prevent shrinkage!
Well then, let's get to work!
MATTRESS SIZES
Measure accurately from one side to the other, lay the measuring tape flat and straight over the mattress to obtain precise measurements. Take measurements of width, length, and thickness.

PERFORM CALCULATIONS

Matrača-izmēri
  • To determine the required fabric width :mattress width + 2x mattress thickness and 2x fabric part that you want to be under the mattress (5-10 cm) + tunnel for the rubber ~2 cm
  • To determine the required fabric length :mattress length + 2x mattress thickness and 2x fabric part that you want to be under the mattress (5-10 cm)+ tunnel for rubber ~2 cm

Tip: If the fabric is printed, first decide which pattern you will place vertically.
CUTTING
You have calculated the width and length, now it's time to cut. Once the excess edges are trimmed, let's get to cutting the corners of the fabric.
Fold the fabric in four parts to cut squares from the corners. kā šūt palagu
After cutting out the squares, the fabric looks like this:

Tip: Don't throw away leftover squares - they will be useful for making face masks!
SEWING CORNERS
Fold the corners together and sew with an overlock or with a sewing machine.

After sewing the corners, the bed sheet should look like this:

Now we will create a channel all around where we will insert the rubber.
First, we smooth it out properly so that it is easier and straighter to sew.

Depending on the width of the rubber, create a channel about 1 cm wide.

Leave about a 3 cm wide unstitched seam through which to thread the elastic.
When the fitted sheet is ready!
Just measure and adjust the rubber tighter or looser as needed.kā šūt palagu
Voila....the bed sheet is ready! Was it difficult and complicated? If you sewed for the first time, it might have taken a while, but trust me, by the third or fourth bed sheet, it will seem like a matter of a few minutes and a great practical gift for baby showers!
